International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
Description of Programs:
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at Roy W. Martin Middle School is designed to provide a holistic curricular framework of academic challenges and life skills for capable and motivated students seeking a rigorous educational experience with an emphasis on international-mindedness. The program focuses on the three Fundamental Concepts of the International Baccalaureate: holistic learning, cultural awareness, and communication.
The International Baccalaureate program offers an educational approach which assists learners in reaching beyond traditional school subjects by showing how the various curriculum subjects are related. The Roy Martin International Baccalaureate program builds organizational skills, encourages creativity, develops personal value systems and prepares students for advanced study in high school and beyond. Students are encouraged to develop intercultural awareness along with a genuine understanding of their own history and traditions. The program places fundamental importance on achieving a firm command of the English language and on the acquisition of a foreign language for effective communication. Further, it aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for 21st Century media and information technology.
