Description of Programs:
Early Childhood/Education
Students in the Teacher Education Program will explore student learning and a variety of teaching experiences at both the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten-through-secondary levels. An on-site childcare laboratory affords students hands-on opportunities to teach lessons that incorporate art, music, and drama to make learning fun. In addition, students will work with a cooperating teacher at either the elementary or middle-school level where they will provide instruction utilizing lesson plans developed based on the most current educational research and technology. Students may earn college credit from Nevada colleges and universities.
Business & Marketing
Students in the Entertainment Business and Marketing Academy will take courses that connect marketing education and the entertainment industry. They will study event planning, finance, computer technology, promotion and advertising as they relate to the entertainment business. Students will have hands-on experience in marketing and planning conventions, sporting events, concerts, fashion shows, and other entertainment activities.
Culinary
Students in the Culinary program will learn essential cooking techniques, food safety, quality assurance, nutrition, and production planning. Students will learn management techniques in the areas of inventory and food cost projecting, purchasing, customer service, and marketing. The latest trends in the food service industry will also be explored. Culinary arts students will provide food service and catering in a new, state-of-the-art kitchen and banquet facility.
Information Technology
Students selecting the Information Technology Academy will focus on electronics and information systems as they relate to the world of technology. This program of study is designed to provide students with a quality curriculum and instruction, which will develop their critical and analytical thinking skills. The Information Technology strand will focus on technologies that provide students with the skills needed to pursue careers in the Information Technology Industry as network administrators, systems engineers, web designers and programmers. Students selecting the national certified CiscoTM curriculum strand will be offered opportunities for certifications and hands-on training in the setup, implementation, and care of the latest computer hardware and software and its impact on this state-of-the-art field of study. Students may earn college credit from Nevada colleges and universities.
Medical Professions
Students in the Medical Professions Academy will follow the certification program for Certified Nursing Assistant or take courses in Sports Medicine, Emergency Medical Technician, and Veterinary Sciences. Students learn CPR procedures, how to check vital signs, help with simple prescribed exercise, and assist with medication routines. In addition to basic customer service skills, they will become familiar with patient billing and collection procedures. Students will acquire an overview of the health care field with information about medical ethics, legal issues, and medical terminology. Students may earn college credit from Nevada colleges and universities.
Construction Technologies
Students in the Construction Technologies Academy will be given the opportunity to learn all aspects of today's high-tech construction industry. This academy prepares students, both through academics and practical application, for careers in construction that employ standard industry processes such as concepts, materials, assembly, and quality control. Utilizing CADD software tools, students will learn how to design before given hands-on projects that prepare them for selected careers in the construction industry. Students may earn college credit from Nevada colleges and universities.
Transportation
Students in the Transportation Technology Academy will be provided the opportunity to learn basic vehicle diagnostics and repair leading to national certifications. Through a hands-on approach, students will receive a solid understanding of the vehicle systems, service, preventive maintenance, and the impact of alternative fuels. This program affords students the opportunity to make a successful transition to post-secondary opportunities. Students may earn college credit from Nevada colleges and universities.
