Description of Programs:
The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT) is a collaborative effort between the National Academy Foundation, the Clark County School District, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors' Authority. Together we provide students with college preparatory curriculum as well as the training and skills necessary for professional, entry-level positions in the travel & tourism industry. While attending the Academy, students take courses related to hotel/motel management, gaming management, accounting, marketing, and finance. AOHT students are placed in a paid internship positions after their junior year. During the summer internship, students work directly with management personnel in various travel agencies, hotels, airlines or other travel related businesses. Many of the graduates of this program now fill management positions in hotels, airlines, airports, travel agencies, cruise lines and many other travel related businesses throughout the world.

International Baccalaureate (IB) is recognized world wide by colleges and universities as the most rigorous high school curriculum available to high school students. Students selecting this prestigious course of study at Valley High School will be provided with academic, social, and leadership experiences that are highly sought by colleges and universities. The IB program is structured specifically as a four-year college preparatory program encouraging students to extend themselves beyond the minimum requirements while offering them a wide spectrum of courses in all major academic subject areas. Following the four-year course of study, students will take IB examinations in six prescribed subject areas, complete a 4,000-word essay related to an independent study program and engage in extracurricular and/or community activities. Students interested in this program should be prepared to study in all subject areas at an honors level.
