Safe Routes to School Calendar and Events

Please join us in celebrating the 3rd Annual Nevada Moves Day on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. This statewide event celebrates the benefits of walking and bicycling to school.It also provides an ideal time to promote safe walking and biking habits with students and their families. Nevada Moves Day is easy to initiate and promote at school sites, and the CCSD Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program would like to assist schools with this event by providing small incentives for student participants and adult volunteers. The first 100 schools (elementary and middle schools) that sign up to participate in Nevada Moves Day will receive pencils, stickers, bracelets, and zipper pulls for participating students. In addition, we will have a limited number of Nevada Moves T-shirts and other items that can be used for student drawings/prizes. How can your school get involved in Nevada Moves Day? Identify a team leader, complete this zoomerang survey and begin planning for your event by signing up for Nevada Moves Day.

You can use the attached flier and safety tip sheet to send home with students to encourage parents to participate. The front of the flier is a Word document, so if you would like to modify it for your school, please feel free to do so. (Example: above the date, you could put: "join YOUR SCHOOL NAME...") Encourage parents and community members to participate too! The benefits of physical activity are wide-reaching so join other schools statewide as we encourage students to use active transport (e.g., walking, bicycling, skating) to school on a regular basis. The pdf attachment can be printed as the back page of the flier you send home. It contains helpful safety tips. The flier prints well in black and white!
