Chess - HS: The CCSD chess league runs from September through February. Students have the opportunity to compete in both team and individual competitions.
Forensics - HS: Students compete in a variety of public speaking and argumentation events. The speech and debate season typically runs from September through March with 1-2 tournaments per month. The Student Activities Office sponsors the county tournament in the Spring.
Junior Varsity Quiz - MS: Junior Varsity Quiz is a knowledge-based quiz bowl competition for middle school students. The Student Activities Office sponsors a one day tournament in the spring. Tournament winners advance to a playoff bracket that culminates with a championship match at Channel 10 KLVX.
National Honor Society (NHS) - HS: Student participation in NHS is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. All chapters are invited to send representatives to quarterly meetings.
ROTC - HS: The mission of ROTC is to instill good citizenship, responsibility and leadership in high school students. Students are given the opportunity to apply leadership skills in competitions and presentations. The Student Activities Office sponsors a drill meet and physical fitness competition.
School Board Advisory Committee (CCSD Reg. 5130) - HS: The Student Activities Office coordinates meetings for students selected from each school to discuss issues and concerns. Meetings conform to Nevada open meeting laws and students report this information at a school board meeting.
Spelling Bee - MS: Each school selects grade-level winners by administering a written spelling test in November. School winners compete in a regional written test in December. Regional grade-level winners compete in a semi-final oral bee. Finalists attend a recognition luncheon and compete in the county spelling bee on Channel 10 KLVX. The county winner in each grade advances to the state competition.
Student Council - MS/HS: Student council provides students the opportunity to apply effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem solving skills. In addition to monthly advisor and student leadership training, the Activities Office, in cooperation with the Nevada Association of Student Councils, sponsors three leadership conferences a year.
Sun Youth Forum â€“ HS: This forum for youth expression began in 1955. Over 900 students come together to discuss current issues with state and local dignitaries at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This one-day event is co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Sun Newspaper.
Varsity Quiz - HS: Varsity Quiz is a knowledge-based quiz bowl competition co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Kiwanis. The league runs from September to February. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals and All Star Matches are broadcast on Channel 10 KLVX.
