Public Meeting Input Information

Return to Gender Diversity Information Page.

Thank you for your support of the students in the Clark County School District. We anticipate a fair amount of interest in the meetings and want to set up a structure that ensures we can hear from as many people as possible, and that our community engages in respectful conversation.

Structure of the five public input meetings, which will be 90 minutes each:

5 minutes:
Quick overview of the relevant state laws

20 minutes:
Discussion with CCSD Gender Diverse Working Group participants about their recommendations and overview of recommendations

25-30 minutes:
Public input from speakers who are opposed to creating written guidance (2 minutes for each speaker)

5-10 minutes:
Public input from speakers who are neutral or undecided on whether CCSD should create written guidance (2 minutes for each speaker)

25-30 minutes:
Public input from speakers who are supportive of CCSD creating written guidance (2 minutes for each speaker)

NORMS:

  • The purpose of the public input meetings is to discuss the specific recommendations of the working group -- not on other topics. We have limited time and will let you know if you stray off topic.
  • In an effort to hear from as many people as possible, each speaker will have two minutes to speak. Also, speakers cannot "donate" their time to other speakers.
  • Audience members should wave their hands instead of clapping to ensure as many speakers as possible can speak.
  • The expectation of all individuals present is to display behavior ensuring a safe and respectful environment in this meeting. Derogatory or offensive comments will not be allowed or tolerated. CCSD staff is charged with maintaining order of the meeting. Any individual operating outside of the norms established will not be able to continue speaking to the group at large.
  • Doors will open 45 minutes before the public input meetings. Speakers will be signed up on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Speakers who have not yet had a chance to speak at one of the public input meetings will be given first priority to speak.
  • The public meetings will end promptly. Five public input meetings are scheduled, and comment cards will be available at every input meeting, and an online survey will be available during the month of December 2017.
  • All public input will be presented to Board of School Trustees in January 2018 for further discussion on whether CCSD should develop a policy, regulation, or written guidelines.
  • PLEASE NOTE: At the request of some members of the community, we will record these meetings and post them on ccsd.net/genderdiverse.
