"Prepare and Be There" campaign aims to motivate 16,000 students to take proficiency exams
CCSD, Siegfried and Roy Offer iPod Giveaways to test takers Las Vegas – If Clark County School District seniors needed an extra push to take their proficiency exams March 5-9, they've got four extra hands courtesy of Siegfried and Roy. The Las Vegas entertainers donated 56 iPod Shuffles to the district for the "Prepare and Be There" campaign. The effort encourages students to prepare for and pass the high school exit exam. One lucky student at each high school who takes all scheduled exams will walk away with the prized iPod Shuffle. Last year, CCSD had its best year in a decade with more than 14,000 students took the exam. The district wants all 16,000 eligible students, including the 2,500 seniors who are one exam away from passage, to take the test. Superintendent Dwight Jones is happy to have Siegfried and Roy's support. "I'm pleased that Siegfried and Roy are invested in the success of our students," he said. "Our goal is to have all of our seniors ‘Ready by Exit' to compete in college or the world of work. Passing the proficiency exam is an imperative part of that goal." Students must pass exams in reading, writing, mathematics and science to earn a high school diploma. Seniors who do not pass all their exams in March will have one final opportunity in July.
