Develops student enrollment projections, attendance zones, school utilization and capacities, and allocation of portable classrooms. The department also manages and operates the district’s geographic information system (GIS) and computerized zoning.
Demographics and Zoning calculates the district-wide planning projections and school-by-school staffing projections. Serves as a liaison between the district and traffic entities regarding student safety to and from school. Responsible for responding to questions regarding demographics and attendance zone boundaries. Complies and analyzes data provided for the School Siting Methodology to assist in the siting of new schools. Recommends school calendars based on regulation 7124.
Geographic Information System (GIS) operates and maintains the district’s computerized zoning and the GIS, which is a sophisticated computer system with the capability to identify each student in the district and geographically locate them on the street centerline file. Represents the district as a member of the Clark County Geographic Information System Management Office (GISMO). The GIS system is critical to the activities of zoning and siting of schools.
