Substitute Teacher Qualification Criteria and General Information

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1) Bachelor's Degree or:

2) The State of Nevada requires that a holder of a substitute license has a minimum of 62 semester credits of overall college/university level course work. Quarter units can be multiplied by 2/3 for equivalent semester credits. Six of those 62 semester credits must have been taken in the field of education if you don't have a bachelor's degree or above. POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A substitute teacher is required to perform the duties of a contracted teacher. The applicants selected will serve as a substitute teacher in replacement of a regular contracted teacher for:

• Day to Day Assignment: substitute teaching in a different classroom every day.
• Long-term Assignment: substitute teaching for a classroom teacher that has taken some form of extended leave.
• Long-term Full Day Assignment: substitute teaching for a classroom without a contracted teacher assigned to the position.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Substitute teachers must work two days each month to maintain an active status. Failure to work the required days could result in dismissal. Exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.


Alternative Routes to Licensure Programs are offered for individuals that have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and are interested in pursuing specific educational career tracking.
