SECTA teachers to present at national convention

Lake ES teacher creates children's book

Lake Elementary School ELL Specialist Kathryn Grant has written and illustrated a children's book, "The Ants and the Clouds Knew Why." The rhymed story of a curious pig has been published in both English and Spanish. A native of Indiana, Grant has been with CCSD for 20 years.

PE teacher at Culley ES receives Jr. League grant

Culley Elementary School PE Specialist Jurgen Kraehmer received a $1500 Junior League Educational Grant to promote healthy habits by using pedometers to measure calories in and calories out. Among other things, the pedometers purchased through the grant will be used to to implement technology within Culley’s PE program and to teach students how to interpret and use the data collected from the pedometers to create personal fitness and nutrition goals. Kraehmer says the pedometers also will be used in the school’s Mighty Milers walk/jog/run program in the morning before school and during lunch recess.

National honor for Deputy Supt. Charlene Green

Scholastic Education presented Charlene A. Green, Deputy Superintendent for the Clark County School District, with the 2009 Scholastic Leadership in Urban Education Award. Scholastic says Green is being honored for her ongoing leadership in Clark County and career-long commitment to serving students with diverse needs.

Energy conservation video for CCSD employees

Teachers Health Trust to offer free health exams

During Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness months, the Teachers Health Trust in conjunction with contracted facilities and physicians will be providing free mammograms and breast exams as well as free prostate and DRE exams to licensed CCSD employees.
