CCSD recognized for exceptional use of technology

Tuesday November 17, 2009 - Employees

The Clark County School District was recognized Nov. 12 for its use of digital technology in interfacing with students, parents and the community. The School Board and district officials received an award from the Center for Digital Education, the National School Boards Association and Converge Online magazine.

Congratulations to NWCTA instructor Gavin Romzek

Monday November 16, 2009 - Employees

Gavin Romzek, Civil Engineering/CADD Instructor at the Northwest CTA, wrote and received the 2009 Wells Fargo "Grant a Wish for Your School" grant. His class will receive a projector and other equipment valued at $2,765. NWCTA is one of 27 public schools in Nevada to receive this grant.

Educators Extravaganza set for Dec. 18

Tracy Viscosi of Hyde Park MS named Barder Fellow

Tracy Viscosi, Dean of Students at Hyde Park Middle School, has been selected as a Sarah D. Barder Fellow by the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at the Johns Hopkins University. The program recognizes excellence in teachers as identified by students and excellence in administrators as identified by teachers. Viscosi will attend the annual conference January 21-24 at in Marina del Rey, California, and will receive a stipend of $500 for enhancing the academic climate of her school.

A-TECH awards grants to five CCSD teachers

The Board Game Club at Advanced Technology Academy (A-TECH) recently awarded five $500 “Play It Forward” grants to the following CCSD teachers:

The grants program focuses on ways of using board games as instructional tools in the classroom.

SECTA teachers to present at national convention

SECTA teachers Pat Gombarcik and Jan Garrett-DeSimone were selected to give a presentation on Projects Based Learning at the National Association of Career Technical Education Convention in Nashville on Saturday, November 21.

McCall ES teachers address national convention

Quannah McCall Elementary School teachers Alma Iniguez and Brenda Reeh spoke at the National Dropout Prevention conference in San Antonio October 16-20, sharing how McCall has improved student behavior and increased student success.

McCall ES teacher receives award from Wells Fargo

McCall Elementary School teacher Romona Muhammad received a $695 grant award from Wells Fargo to launch her bookmaking project. The activity includes buying small tape recorders and recording books on tape for students to review at home and to tape their responses to questions for the teacher to review. Students will also make books with additional supplies.

Lake ES teacher creates children's book

Lake Elementary School ELL Specialist Kathryn Grant has written and illustrated a children's book, "The Ants and the Clouds Knew Why." The rhymed story of a curious pig has been published in both English and Spanish. A native of Indiana, Grant has been with CCSD for 20 years.
