PROGRAM PROJECTS



The School-Community Partnership Program facilitates numerous projects throughout the year that connect business and community resources with school resources to enrich the educational experiences for CCSD students. Some of these projects/programs are highlighted below.

Fine Arts Programs

Airport Art Project - CCSD students will be providing 50,000 photo mosaics for the new airport terminal. We are partnering with PGAL Architects for this project.
Las Vegas Philharmonic - over 17,000 students attend a live symphonic presentation at Artemus Ham hall over a five-day period
Poetry Out Loud - a district, state and national poetry recitation contest available to high school students.
Scenic Nevada - Nevada's beauty or blight photography contest
Scholastic Art and Writing Competition - a national middle and high school art and writing contest
Walker Furniture - various art and writing competitions
Y-Arts Writing and Art Competition - a local high school competition in writing and visual arts

Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada

The SCPP has partnered with Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada which brings caring adults into the schools to address children's unmet needs. E-mentoring, backpacks with food for the weekend program, monthly birthday parties, career club, and medical care are just a few of the services provided by Communities In Schools.

Drive for Excellence

The SCPP has partnered with Desert Honda to encourage students to maintain high grades and promote attendance. Students that maintain a 3.7 weighted cumulative GPA or higher with no unexcused absences are invited to two events during the school year. Prizes given away at the events include laptop computers, a trip to Hawaii and a Honda Fit.

House of Blues

The SCPP has partnered with the House of Blues to offer field trips focusing on music, art, literature and the history of the Blues.

Incentives

Students and teachers in grades K-12 are recognized through donations of local restaurants. These include, Applebee's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Carl's Jr., Jason's Deli, In-N-Out Burger, and Sammy's Woodfired Pizza.

JASON and Immersion Presents

The SCPP trains teachers to implement these two science-based programs within their classrooms. These high quality multi-media programs engage students in a better understanding of research, exploration and the environment.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is a business/education partnership in which volunteers teach K-12 students about the free enterprise system using pre-designed curriculum.  For additional information, go to http://www.lasvegas.ja.org

Junior League of Las Vegas

The SCPP partners with the Junior League of Las Vegas on programs such as Kids in the Kitchen, a national nutrition program addressing the issue of childhood obesity. The Junior League of Las Vegas also donated "Pocket Books" to 35 focus schools. These small paperback books are given to every kindergarten student to promote literacy.

Kids Voting / KidsVention

Kids Voting offers students in grades K-8 the opportunity to participate in an authentic voting experience. Its goal is to develop lifetime citizenship and voting habits. Curriculum and professional development training is provided for teachers. KidsVention provides an opportunity for select schools to participate in a mock political convention.

Las Vegas Literary Society Luncheon

Each month Northern Trust Bank sponsors two educators and four high school students to attend the Las Vegas Literary Society luncheon with renowned authors.

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

Elementary students participate in field trips to the museum that focuses on natural history.

Newspapers In Education

K-12 students utilize free newspapers and supplemental materials provided by the Las Vegas Review Journal and The Las Vegas Sun. Students are invited to participate in art contests and monthly essay contests. Teachers may submit monthly lesson plans that incorporate the use of the newspaper. Sports Programs

First Tee National School Program - This program provides golf equipment and training to elementary Physical Education teachers. Currently over 40,000 students have the opportunity to learn the game of golf using the First Tee equipment.

United States Tennis Association - The USTA offers grants and training for teachers interested in organizing an after school tennis program.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Partnership

At-risk students and teachers throughout the valley participate in performances and staff development focusing on integration of the arts.
