Reading Activities

1. Welcome
   Approximately 20 parents and school representatives attended.
   Headphones were provided for English/Spanish translation.
   
   
2. Research
   Discussed the value of parent involvement in teaching children about reading.
   
   
3. Reading Activity - Ms. Raquel Gutherie
   • Read-aloud story: Tomasito's Mother Comes to School
   • Copies given to participants
     
4. Word Walk Presentation - suggestions for parent involvement
   • Neighborhood - discuss words found on street signs and billboards and ask question about sights and sounds
   • Library - check out books, participate in activities
   • Community Center - attend activities
   • Tell stories about experiences
     
5. Read Aloud Storybooks with Family Themes
   • Harvard Family Research Project
   • Family Involvement Storybook Corner
     
6. Raffle - Three children's reading books were given by raffle to participants.
