How to register for Credit By Exam

PROCESS
• Utilize the new Credit By Exam CCF-847 .
• At the beginning of the year during initial transcript reviews, counselors are encouraged to conduct credit checks and identify students who are credit deficient. Encourage students to address the credit deficiency early in the school year to avoid desperate measures for credits during the last or fourth quarter of school.
• Counselors within the comprehensive high schools should conduct a thorough transcript review prior to offering Credit By Exam as a resource for students to earn outside credits toward a diploma. If the student has previously attempted the course, the student cannot access the Credit By Exam option for that course.
• Counselors are asked to complete the Student Application Credit-by-Exam (CCF-847) for each exam and have it signed by the counselor and administrator or designee. A current transcript must accompany the CBE application.
• Counselors give the current transcript and completed CCF-847 form to the student. The student must transport the transcript, forms fees (cash only) to the AIS Office at 2701 East St. Louis Ave Door E, Las Vegas, NV 89104.
• Once the application has been accepted, students must pay the course fee at the AIS office. At that time, students will be assigned an appointment. The appointment will designate the date, time, and regional site where they will test. Students are urged not to miss their initial scheduled appointment. If the student misses the initial appointment, AIS will offer only one rescheduled appointment; after which the student will not be allowed to reschedule a third time and will forfeit their application fee.
Students must pass Credit By Exam tests with an 80% or better. If a student fails the initial attempt of 80%, yet manages to fail with a score of 60-79%, the student will be allowed to re-test one time only. The one time only retest must occur within the same school year and cannot exceed the senior test deadline (end of third nine weeks).
Students who pass with an 80% or better will earn a “P” for pass. “P” will be recorded on the student’s transcript; if the student does not pass, nothing will be recorded on the transcript. The “P” does not affect the GPA and no Honors credit can be earned.
Applications older than two months will be returned to the school counselor. Students must have an updated application submitted prior to making payment and receiving an appointment.
• Graduating seniors and early graduating 11th graders must complete all outside credits by June 1, 2009.
• Test results are usually available one to two weeks after the test date. Counselors will receive an email from the Credit By Exam Independent Study Teacher indicating the pass/fail. Registrars will receive the pink copy of the Credit By Exam application form (CCF-847) in the school mail.
• Registrars: Post credit-by-exam credit with a “P” for passing on transcript using location code 998.
• For any further questions call the Credit-by-Exam office at 799-8636 ext 330.
