The Academy of Individualized Study (AIS) School is designed to assist students who are at-risk in completing coursework for their high school diploma.
- Students may not use required courses for elective credits.
- The Concurrent Enrollment process is provided through the Academy for Individualized Study (AIS) at designated school sites within the five geographical regions of the CCSD.
- The classes are offered on a weekly basis in each region, after regular comprehensive school hours.
Courses must be completed within a 60 day period.
DESIGNATED ASSESSMENT SITE
- Upon registration, each student will be assigned a day and time in which they must take his/her assessments over the completed course outline packets.
- Once assigned, a student cannot switch to different sites.
- Students are allowed to test on a maximum of two tests per visit due to time constraints.
- With a maximum of two tests per visit, the earliest a student can complete a semester course is two weeks and a year-long course is four weeks.
INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL
- Self instruction resembling a typical independent study model becomes the instructional delivery format. Students complete the assignments in an independent study (self-instructional format). Students must read the textbook and complete the course outline.
- Students cannot test unless the course outline is 100% completed.
- Students who show up for an assessment, yet do not have the course outline completed, will be documented as incomplete.
- Depending on the course and semester length of each course, course outlines come in sections of 4 to 8 packets, which together compile the semester grades and credits.
- If a student were to fail any assessment, the student will have the course outline packet returned to them with a new Instructional Log stapled on top indicating the first failed assessment grade.
- Within 7 days of this first failed assessment attempt, the student must go home and restudy the course outline. The student can return any day and retest within the 7 day timeframe.
- If the student fails to return and retest within the 7 day timeframe, the student will be required to re-do the entire course outline.
- Likewise, if the student fails the assessment the second time, the student will be required to re-do the entire course outline.
- AIS teachers will correct each student’s test as they finish the test and inform them of the actual grade.
