OVERVIEW
Independent Study targets grades 7-12 during a 12 month school year. Students work on one course at a time, earning credit through mastery of course work activities. Course work involves students completing chapter outlines and instructional activities, followed by testing mastery at a designated school site.
Eligibility for middle school students:
Students who remain credit deficient for Math and English or Reading after attending middle school grades over a 3 year period.
Students who have special needs such as pregnancy and/or other medical conditions.
Eligibility for high school students:
Students who have earned a minimum of 5.0 credits.
Students who have special needs such as pregnancy and/or other medical conditions.
Self-instruction is the emphasis for all high school course work with the exception of mathematics where direct instruction is mandatory for Algebra and geometry classes. A CASH ONLY $100 book deposit fee is required and refundable at the end of the student's enrollment period.

PROCESS
REGISTRATION (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY)
Independent Study Registration and Enrollment, for ALL SITES, is held at 2701 E. St. Louis Ave Door E. Students may register, by appointment on Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am-11:00am, and 12:45pm -2:00pm. However, students may exchange textbooks on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 7:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm-3:00pm. Wednesdays we close at 2:00pm.
To register, a student must bring a parent/guardian, a current copy of their transcript, a withdrawal slip from their previous school (if during the school year), and the appropriate cash fee. The book deposit will be refunded when all of the course books are returned in good condition and the student exits the Independent Study program. All homework, notes, and class assignments must be written by hand by the student taking the course. NO computer generated, typed, or machine-copied work will be accepted at ANY site.
