Student Art
| On the right are images of "landscapes" and "tessellations" created by Bailey Art students. Art teacher Ms. Moorehead reports that "these landscapes and seascapes are miniatures painted in acrylic colors on 12" x 3" wood panels. The panels were donated by a colleague. Exciting projects are being planned in the future that will incorporate recyclable materials. Art history lessons were enhanced and enriched with the study of M.C. Escher, the artist best known for tessellation art. A tessellation is any repeating pattern of interlocking shapes. Although the definition sounds simple, the ideas involved in designing and understanding tessellations can grow very complex and interesting. Students eagerly engaged into composing original tessellations inspired by this artist. The study of tessellations connects Visual Arts to Science and Mathematics in invigorating and intriguing educational instructional practices that students enjoyed". |
Feeder School Assembly Held
| Bailey Middle School recently welcomed 5th grade students who will be attending Bailey beginning in August. The students from our elementary feeder schools were entertained by our Mariachi, Choir, Orchestra, and Band students. The 5th graders also viewed our students' art work and watched performances by the Bailey Uprize Dancers and Cheerleaders. |

| The visit by the 5th grade students provided an opportunity for them to consider music as their choice of an elective class next year, meet our counselors, and take a quick tour of the 6th grade classroom area. Bailey counselors will soon be visiting the feeder schools to schedule classes for students in the 2008 - 2009 school year. |
2008 Talent Show
| The Spring show featured our students showcasing their talents that included dances, songs, music, skits, magic, and more. Student awards were given in six different categories. One teacher noted that the "students were fantastic and put so much heart into their performances" while another teacher stated "the talent show was fun to watch. It's too bad they couldn't all have won. It took a great deal of heart for some of those kids just to stand up in front of an audience, let alone perform.....I know that I probably would never have done anything like that at 12 or 13!" We thank our Bailey community members for your continued support of our students. Applaud teachers Ms. Rickert and Ms. Myers who organized and prepared students for the event. A standing ovation goes out to all students who participated in the Talent Show ... you were all winners in the judges' eyes! |
