Empowerment Elementary School
    

The demographics of K. R. Booker Elementary School have changed from a population where the majority of the students were African American, to one which is 46% African American, 46% Hispanic, 3% White, and 3% Asian/Pacific Islander.

Although the demographics have changed throughout the history of the school, Dr. Beverly Mathis has kept up with this trend by formulating major changes to meet the needs of the student population.  These changes include:


In 2007, Booker applied to be an Empowerment School.  The status was granted because of the school’s outstanding student achievement and supportive environment.  The new empowerment status has enabled Dr. Mathis and her staff to compose the changes needed to meet the various needs of our diverse student population.  In addition, we were afforded additional money to the school’s budget.  With the supplementary money we were able to make use of the following:
