September 29, 2008 September has been a very busy month for the 801st. Recruiting has started for the second semester of operation as a School Enrichment Program squadron. Ten new airman basic cadets have joined us so far this year. Orientation classes have started and the new recruits are learning the basic of military courtesy and drill and ceremony.
Prior to this new start, a leadership academy was conducted twice a week throughout this summer. Cadets were trained in advanced leadership skills, physical training and aerospace education. Emphasis was given to proper wear of the uniform and drill and ceremony. At the conclusion of the academy, cadets were advanced in rank and presented with the ribbons for wear on their uniforms representing their achievement.
The Jim Bridger Middle School Cadet Squadron received two honors this September. First the squadron was presented an American flag that once flew over the United States capital. A representative of U.S. Senator Jon Ensign’s office was on hand for that presentation. The second honor was the receiving of our first Aerospace Education Award of Excellence from the national headquarters of the Civil Air Patrol.
Two of our senior members, Capt Sperling and Capt Wood represented the squadron at the National Civil Air Patrol Conference in Kissimmee, Florida.
The “soar for excellence” is a tradition that the 801st has started for Bridger. “Semper Vigilans” Always Vigilant.
