Recently, the Jim Bridger Middle School Cadet Squadron NV-801 held an aerospace education class as a requirement for the award of excellence program.
Each cadet built a Goddard rocket under the watchful eyes of Capt Sperling and Capt Wood, Aerospace Education Officers of the CAP. These rockets were made from pipe insulation, Styrofoam, and rubber bands. Given the raw material each cadet cut, hot glued and assembled their rocket. Taking their completed rocket to a safe launching location, each rocket was tested. This make it take it activity is one of several similar classes that are required for a cadet’s aerospace training. A fun and exciting follow-up event is scheduled to play rocket golf using the Goddard rocket.
Cadets will have an opportunity to receive their rocketry badge upon completing several different rocket models and test firing them.
The SEP (School Enrichment Program), under the Civil Air Patrol an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is the first middle school to charter a cadet squadron in the state of Nevada. |
