Crestwood Honors Mr. and Mrs. Howlett

On April 21, 1997, we honored our partners, Newel and Iva Howlett. Mr. and Mrs. Howlett were the owners of H & O Foods and their daughters went to Crestwood Elementary.

In 1994, Joseph Thiriot told Mr. and Mrs. Howlett that we needed computers and books for our school. They made a plan. Mr. and Mrs. Howlett would match the money we earned dollar for dollar, and they would match ten cents on the dollar for corporate donations.

Between 1994 and 1997, Crestwood School kids and parents raised $29,033.89 and the Howletts matched our funds. With this money we have purchased computers, networking equipment and software, Accelerated Reader, other software programs, and books.

Crestwood School became and even more exciting place to learn because of these improvements.

Mr. Howlett told us that it is important to work together to get along and help each other. He told our students to work hard in school to succeed so that they can come back years later and help other students like he has helped us.

Mrs. Howlett has always loved to read. She thinks computers are important but they are always changing. Books don’t change. She said, "Learn to love reading and you will always have a friend when you are reading books."

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Howlett, for being our partners and friends and helping us to help ourselves!
