Nevada Citizenship
Award
The Nevada Citizenship Award is intended to
encourage our fourth grade students to learn more about the state in
which they live. We hope that the interest shown and knowledge
gained by each student will indeed help them to be better Nevada
citizens. To earn this award each student must fulfill the
following requirements by May 1, 2007. We do not encourage
competition to complete this award. All students will be honored
equally at the end of the year.
1. State Song
The student may sing or say
both verses and the chorus of the state song. Only two errors or
help is allowed in order to
pass off the song.
2. State Facts and Symbols
Each student will be able to
correctly answer a series of questions about Nevada state facts
and symbols. All
answers are found in the first chapter of the Nevada book. Answers
must
be spelled correctly.
3. Governmental Officials
Each
student must learn the current government officials and the office each
holds. The
student needs to be able to
orally list the office and the entire name of the office holder.
4. Geography
Each
student must be able to locate and correctly spell the counties on a
blank map of
Nevada.
The municipality of Carson City must also be located and spelled
correctly. See
page 153 in your Nevada book
for assistance 5.
Government Meeting
Each
student will attend a Boulder City Council Meeting, which meets twice
monthly. After
attending the meeting, a
short oral report about the meeting will be presented in class.
Please
obtain a copy of the meeting
agenda to hand in to your teacher.
6. Nevada Project
Each student must
complete a project about Nevada. Student projects do not have to
be in
written report
format. Students may have artistic license as long as all criteria
for the Nevada
Project are met.
(Examples include: poster board projects, interviews, and travel
brochures). Each
project must include the following:
-Title Page: Include title, student's name and date.
-Map: Locate and label four different points of interest in
Nevada.
-Famous People: Write facts about three famous
Nevadans.
-Visitors Guide: Write facts about four places to visit in
Nevada.
