Physical Education
Nike 5K
Hey Martha P. King families! This
year our school is participating in the Nike 5k, a Nike sponsored 5k
run/1 mile walk to help raise funds for Clark County Physical
Education programs. For every participant we have, our school gets
15 dollars of the 20 dollar entry fee back to purchase new equipment
for our kids.
Click
here for the registration form, look for them coming home with
your students or go to www.nike5kforkids.com and get signed up for
this great family fun fitness event on November 10th.
Jump Rope For Heart
Congratulations to the students,
family and donators for helping Martha P. King Elementary School
raise $5,080 to help fight heart
disease in 2007. The American Heart Association thanks you all for
your time, efforts and dedication to helping others.
As Heart Disease and Childhood
Obesity are at an all time high you may be wondering what else you
can do to help. Here are a few things you can do to help
yourself, your family and those around you.
* Exercise-Lack of
physical activity is one of the major modifiable risk
factors of heart disease (AHA). So break out the
tennis shoes for a family walk, dust off the hiking
boots and head for the hills, pump up that tire and go
for a bike ride, or put on the sun block and take a dip
in the pool! 30 minutes 3-4 times a week will not
only be good for your heart but will make you feel
better and more energized too.
* Stop Smoking-Smoking is the most preventable
cause of heart disease and each day 3,000 children start
in the US (AHA).
* Learn CPR-It could give a loved one that extra
minute that they need for professional help to arrive.
And, CPR was developed by research funded from the AHA.
* Eat Healthier-A serving of potato chips has
about 10 times as much fat as a serving of pretzels
(AHA). For the average adult, a reduction of 500
calories a day from your normal intake will result in a
1 pound a week weight loss (AHA). So chop up those
apples for a quick healthy snack and break out that
veggie dip for those carrots. |

Association for you and your family to participate in.
