Parenthetical Citation

When writing your paper, you must give credit to your sources within the body of the paper. At the end of any paragraph containing information you didn’t know before (not only with quotations), show where you got that information by using a PARENTHETICAL CITATION. The last NAME of the AUTHOR and the PAGE NUMBER is included in parenthesis BEFORE the period. Example:

Newspapers of the time used nicknames for the Titanic such as “the Millionaires’ Special” and “the Unsinkable Ship” (Ballard 94).

Work Cited Page

At the end of your paper, on a separate page, put a listing of the sources you used. This page is called a WORKS CITED page or bibliography. The words, “Works Cited” should appear on the top of the page. This page is an alphabetical listing, by the author’s last name when known, of the sources you used. If there is no author listed, then alphabetize by the title (ignoring “a” and “the”). Put the first line of every entry flush with the margin and INDENT the second and subsequent lines of each citation. Double space entries. Questions? Use an MLA style guide. work cited

The Writing Traits

Keep in mind that the body of your paper will be scored by the FOUR WRITING TRAITS: VOICE, ORGANIZATION, IDEA, and CONVENTIONS.  Be sure to include an introductory paragraph as well as a satisfying conclusion.
