So that students are familiar with the different tools and operations in Microsoft Word, it is recommended that students complete the Basic Word Processing lessons before moving on to the other projects listed on this page.
Basic Word Processing - 10 lesson plans that focus on basic word processing skills. Each lesson builds on the other as students compose a letter to their teacher, edit a nursery rhyme, create a bulleted list, etc.. Create a Newsletter - Students learn basic word processing and formatting skills by creating a newsletter. Add columns, clipart, tables, borders, etc.. Grades 4-5
The Election Process - compare and contrast campaign issues using a template created in word. A table or Venn diagram can be used depending on the outcome.

Create Flashcards - Create a flashcard template for teachers or with students to use over and over for various activities.
Nice All Around - Each student opens a Word document on their computer and uses Word Art to write their name at the top of the page. The date should also be added. Then each student rotates to the next computer. The student looks at the name on the screen, and writes something nice and positive about that person in only one or two lines and signs their name. Students can also use this Quilt Template to create a "quilt of nice comments" about their classmates. Grades 2-5
Cinquain Poems - Create a cinquain poem, add clipart, spell check. Older students can use Thesaurus to help with descriptive and action words. Sample Grades 3-5.
Magnificent ME Acostic Poems- Practice basic word processing skills by creating an Acrostic Poem using your first name. Poem can be adapted to use names of famous people, holidays, etc. Sample Grades 2-5
Haiku Poems - Create a haiku poem, practice adding clipart, spell check, using descriptive words. Sample Grades 3-5.
Let's Celebrate! - Students will practice various word processing skills by creating a Color poem related to a specific holiday (Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc.).
