Terri Janison

Terri Janison

Terri Janison was elected to the CCSD Board of Trustees in November 2006. She represents District E, where she has resided for the past 15 years. A child advocate for over 20 years, Janison has remained active in education and the lives of her two children, both CCSD students.

Mrs. Janison has served as president of the PTA at Lummis Elementary School, president of the Northwest Region Education Advisory Board - a group that reports parent and community concerns to administrators in the district's NW Region and holds monthly PACE (Parent Advisory Committee District E) meetings encouraging parents and community members to speak out on education issues.

Educating the community on the importance of empowerment schools, lobbying against some standards of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, improving the dropout rate and getting parents more involved in education are some of her top priorities. She believes parents and community members can all make a difference in education by simply sharing some of their time.

Her strong interest in what is best for children has led her to lobby for schools to offer foods of nutritional value to their students and to increase the amount of time children have to exercise. The combination of both is proven to increase academic achievement. Her involvement with Action for Healthy Kids was instrumental in improving the nutritional standards for students throughout the district.

Since 2002, Janison has worked as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) representing foster children in the court system. She was recognized as the Outstanding CASA in 2004. From 2001-2003, Janison served on the CASA Foundation Board of Trustees. She held a similar post with the Shade Tree Shelter board from 1994-2000.

Professionally, Janison worked as the executive director for the Children's Heart Foundation, and executive director for the Caring Program of Children.
Janison completed her bachelor's degree in advertising and a minor in business at Western Kentucky University. Terri and her husband Kevin have been married for 20 years.
