A trustee since 1993, Mr. Mason is a career educator of 32 years, all of which has been spent in higher education, 20 years of which has been in four-year institutions and 12 years in two-year
institutions. During his 14 years as an elected school board trustee, Mr. Mason has been, and is, a passionate community activist for children and parents. Mr. Mason has also been a careful fiscal steward in overseeing the Clark County School District's $3 billion budget. He has served twice as President, Vice-President, and Clerk of the Board of School Trustees, Clark County School District. Mr. Mason is currently employed as the Interim Vice-President, Office of Diversity and Cultural Affairs for the College of Southern Nevada. He was previously P-16 Liaison for the Nevada System of Higher Education. Prior to that, Mr. Mason was the Dean for Student Affairs and Community Outreach at the College of Southern Nevada and, previous to that, was the Director of Admissions for 13 years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Mr. Mason received his Bachelor's Degree in Human Performance and Development and has a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mr. Mason has six children and six grandchildren.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mason has been honored many times. Among the honors bestowed are the following: Señores of Distinction 2008; Arturo Cambeiro Hispanic of the Year Award 2006, the Latin Chamber of Commerce's Highest award; Educational Award 1992 by the Latin Chamber of Commerce of Nevada; the Latin Chamber of Commerce of Nevada Public Service Award 2002; and was appointed by U.S. Senator Harry Reid to serve on the U.S. Hispanic Senatorial Task Force. Mr. Mason has served also as past President of the Nevada Association of Counseling and Development.

One of his several personal accomplishments is being voted into the National Hispanic Basketball Hall of Fame 2007. Mr. Mason is a member of the following organizations: The Latin Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors; Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, Board of Trustees; Las Vegas Indian Center, Board of Directors; Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), Board of Control; Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Chancellor's Diversity Roundtable; and Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council (EDIC), Co-Chair.
