2009-2010 District C Advisory Group Meeting Schedule
Dr. Linda E. Young received her Bachelor of Science in Spanish, Speech, and English and Master of Science in school psychology from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She took additional graduate course work from the University of Colorado and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she received state educational certificates in special education and school administration. She is currently nationally certified throughout the United States as a school psychologist and has served as a school psychologist in the Dayton Public Schools, Troy Ohio Public Schools, Colorado Springs Public Schools and Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University where she developed the nation's first transitional program for 12th Grade Learning Disabled Students who receive dual credits from the Clark County School District and the College of Southern Nevada.
Dr. Young has been an employee of the Clark County School District for more than 32 1/2 years. Throughout her educational career that spans three states: Ohio, Colorado, and Nevada, she has served in positions as a high school teacher, program counselor, school psychologist, coordinator for special education programs, elementary special education teacher, special education consultant, high school dean of students, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, director of special education programs, and director of Multicultural/Community Outreach Educational Program, Student Success/Community Outreach Educational Programs and was recently the director of Equity and Diversity Education Department. Dr. Young has also been an adjunct professor at Nova University and has taught part-time in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Young currently serves as the 1st National Vice President for the National Council on Educating Black Children a member and former president of both the Las Vegas and Colorado Springs Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, founder, past president, and board member of the Northwest Area Residents Association, educational chair for the NAACP and the ACT SO Youth Program, member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Association of Elementary School Principal, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Nevada Association of School Administrators, National Association of Multicultural Education, National Association of School Administrators, National Association of Secondary School Administrators, Clark County Association of School Administrators, National Association of School Psychologists, and the National Alliance of Black School Educators. President of the advisory board of Educating Through The Arts, past president of the Las Vegas Alliance of Black School Educators, Inc., served on the board of the Nevada Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education, served on the board for the A.D. Guy Family Resource Center Neighborhood Council, Commissioner for the City of Las Vegas' Ethics Review Board, currently on the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Flood Control District and member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Teen Summit.

Dr. Young has made extensive presentations to equity and diversity education, multicultural education, special education, and dropout prevention audiences and staffs who serve diverse student populations. She has written articles for various newsletters and professional publications. Currently she is a contributor to the Urban Voice, and the book: "A Reading on Expectations" published my McGraw-Hill. She has served on national, state, and local boards that support equity and diversity education, multicultural education, special education, and at risk programs for under-served and under-represented culturally diverse student populations.
Dr. Young's interests and hobbies include poetry writing (her book "Life's Snapshot of Soul" will be published in spring 2009), competitive walking, steps aerobics, competitive tennis, horseback riding, reading, gardening, computer, and music. She has special skills in crocheting, knitting, sewing, ceramics, and modeling. She supports neighborhood and educational programs for families and youth.
