Adult English Language Acquisition Services (AELAS) strives to provide non- and limited-English speaking adults with workplace literacy and life skills needed to become self-sufficient and productive members of the community.

Services offered to AELAS students include:

1. Adult ESL classes
2. Parenting classes
3. Gang Alternative Program (GAP), cultural music and dance troupes for youth attending CCSD schools
4. Information and referral services and community outreach
5. Notary services
6. Counseling referrals
7. Family assistance referrals including:

•      Immigration
•      Housing
•      Domestic violence

AELAS offers classes in partnership with the Instituto Nacional para la Educacion de los Adultos (INEA) of Mexico to allow Spanish speakers to earn a high school diploma in their native language.  INEA graduates may then advance to AELAS English classes.

New this year, AELAS is piloting the Schools Within Schools (SWS) program at Von Tobel Middle School for new, non-English speaking middle school students in order to facilitate their transition into regular English speaking classrooms.
