CCSD Food Distribution Pods During School Closure

The Clark County School District (CCSD) will continue providing breakfast and lunch to students during the closure of our schools. Student food distribution pods will be set up at school locations throughout the district. To locate a site near you and to view serving days and times, visit ccsd.nutrislice.com.

Parents and guardians will now be able to pick up meals for their children without their child/children present. Meals are available for all children ages 2-18.

However, parents/guardians picking up meals at CCSD Distribution sites will be asked to:

  • If possible, have the student ID card present when picking up meals.
  • Or
  • If a student ID card is not present then please be able to verbally provide the following information:
  • Name(s) of students
  • Student Identification Number(s)
  • School Location(s)
  • Grade level(s) of students

The pickup location will be set up outside of the school sites to facilitate distribution.

Parents can also pick up academic resources at CCSD food distribution sites.

Additionally, CCSD will be working with our government and community partners to set up food distribution options to ensure our students have access to additional food.

Nutrition Standards for School Meals

Federal, State and Local Standards have been set that govern what food may be provided to students during school hours.

FEDERAL STANDARDS

Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) updated the nutrition standards for reimbursable school meals and established nutrition standards for all other foods served outside the school meals program at any time during the school day.

Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 Fact Sheet

STATE STANDARDS

Each School district that participates in the National School Lunch Program, National School Breakfast Program, Supper Meals, or Summer Meal Service is required by federal law to establish a local school wellness policy for all schools under its jurisdiction. A local school wellness policy is a written document of official policies that guide the school district’s efforts to establish a school environment that promotes students’ health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

CCSD Regulation -5157 reinforces the above local standards and further highlights the areas of smart snacks generated revenue, special occasions, reimbursable meals and exempt areas.

WHAT FOODS MAY BE DISTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS DURING SCHOOL HOURS?

Starting in School Year 2014-15, all foods sold or given away at school during the school day are required to meet nutrition standards. The Smart Snacks in School regulation applies to foods sold a la carte, in the school store, vending machines, and any other venues where food is sold or handed out to students during school hours. School hours are defined as from midnight before to 30 minutes after the end of the school day.
