The Property & Liability Unit handles all bodily injury and property damage claims presented to the School District which are not eligible for Workers Compensation benefits. The School District does not pay for all claims that occur. An investigation into the facts of the injury/loss is conducted on every reported claim. Once all the facts regarding the loss have been gathered, determination of coverage is made according to Nevada State Law and CCSD regulations. In order to file a claim with the School District the individual suffering the loss must complete the CCSD Claim Form. The claim form must be notarized if the requested settlement amount is greater than $200.00. All documents supporting the individual’s claim should be included with the claim form when it is returned to the Risk Management Department. If further documentation is needed, we will contact the individual. If all information necessary to evaluate the claim has been received, a formal determination of coverage will be issued in writing to the individual filing the claim. Please be aware, any investigative documents gathered by Risk Management in the evaluation of the case are confidential and cannot be shared with anyone outside the School District. In addition to claims filed by individuals, the Property & Liability Unit also assists various site locations in collecting restitution from responsible parties for damage to School District property. If the site location requires assistance in this procedure they should contact the Risk Management Department as soon as possible after the occurrence at 799-0048.
